Liberation Collection 100.15 - Paris Fashion Week

In a world dominated by men in Iran during the 1950’s and 60’s when literature
and arts were predominantly a man’s domain; a young woman named Forough
Farkhzad (1934-1967) began publishing her poems breaking the perpetual
taboos and changing the unwritten rules of the time. Her poems filled with
sensuality transcended the boundaries of poetry and what was deemed
acceptable at the time resonating the deepest emotions and desires of a woman.
Forough’s life and her body of work were the inspiration for “Liberation”
showcased in Paris Fashion Week in 2020.
Select verses from some of her most sensual poems were enigmatically written
in a calligraphic style and were used as design and pattern against the backdrop
of wavy and satiny fabric. The sensuous material, vibrant and vivid colors and
the flow of the design helped capture the essence of her poetry culminating in a
parade of passion on the catwalk in Paris.
